The Basics

MP3 is an audio format that is just about universal. Any common MP3 player can be loaded with files that you can listen to while you're on the move. How you load them onto a device is dependent upon the device itself. Most devices, including many smart phones, have a mini-USB connection that enables file transfer from a computer to the device. The purpose of this site is to help you find the right free files to download to your computer and listen to on whatever device you choose.

Once you download the MP3 files you have two choices. You can listen to them on a device (including your computer itself) or create a CD that contains the files. The latter choice is a very good one if you have a CD player in your vehicle capable of playing MP3 format files.

There's still another way to obtain and use MP3 files. Podcasting get complicated quickly so let's take it slow at this point. The goal with podcasting is to "push" content to your computer. When it's set up correctly the system enables direct downloading of MP3 files to a device that you can use to play them.

Finally, you can listen live via streaming media. This live format includes audio only and video as well.  While this Free Executive Audio site focuses on downloads a significant portion of the available material is available only via "streaming." Streaming only audio is often due to copyright or licensing issues.

Why is most of this information and knowledge free? On a practical level it can be distributed on a low or no-cost basis. That means that there is a deluge of material, some of it bad, most of it so-so and some of it really great. The motivation ranges from promotional to altruistic.

To get started, you can go to the directory page on this site to find audio by subject or the "dave's picks" page to immediately sample some of my favorite sources.
